Specialist media training and coaching

Built around you

    Media Training
  • Each session is unique, tailored specifically to match your needs, background and likely media scenarios
  • 1 to 1 or small group settings, studio-based or on-site, your place or ours
  • From 2 hours to a full day, focused on a specific issue or a broad range of topics

How

  • Almost 100% practical, learn-by-doing approach with no dreary lectures or textbook theories. Interviews are meaningful, relevant and real-life
  • Building confidence through proof - with recording and playback, you'll immediately see the measurable effects of the coaching on both confidence and competence
  • We give you what you need, rather than telling you what you already know. Our training style is sufficiently flexible and advanced to ensure that we go at your pace, instead of working within a rigid structure. This means that your time is maximised for optimal benefit and cost effectiveness
  • If your training is in a group setting, coaching is still predominantly 1 to 1 meaning that we can simultaneously challenge and deliver value to both experienced and inexperienced interviewees alike
  • You'll receive a professional recording of all the practical interviews, vividly illustrating your growth throughout the training
  • You'll also receive an individually-tailored, credit card-sized "aide memoire", highlighting the specific conclusions and key points of the coaching and - clients tell us - a wonderful boost when referred to immediately prior to a media interview
  • "Advice for life"; Pozitiv clients - whenever they feel they need it - have access to unlimited informal telephone advice, aimed at providing re-assurance, a confidence boost and broad-based guidance prior to any key media interview

What

    Media Training
  • Practical interviews are formed from in-depth background information and research on you or your business and potential media scenarios. Depending on your needs, you'll typically encounter any combination of the following:
    • Print interviews - face to face interview with a journalist, which is then written up into a story
    • Telephone interviews - either for print or radio
    • Radio interviews
    • Location TV interviews - a recorded interview from which sound-bites are selected
    • Door-stepping - a media favourite for controversial or fast-moving stories, where flustered comments are often regretted later
    • Remote interviews - a "down the line", where the interviewer and interviewee are in separate studios and the interviewee talks straight to camera, rather than to a "person"
    • Remote location interviews - often held at or outside your place of work, a "down the line" where you're typically talking straight to camera and taking questions from the interviewer via an earpiece
    • Live TV interviews - simulated live studio or location interviews
    • Live TV interviews 1+2 - simulated studio or location interviews in "discussion style" with two or more guests, often with opposing viewpoints
  • You'll learn how it's typically not what you say but how you say it that leaves the biggest impression
  • You'll encounter a wide variety of interviewing styles, from the softly-softly to the controversial, "breakfast TV" to "rolling news", tabloid to financial media - again, all selected from the sort of media scenarios you're likely to face
  • What you need to know from your inquisitor before your interview - and how you can turn this information to your advantage
  • Enhancing media intelligence - building competence from within so that any unprepared-for scenarios can be handled intelligently
  • How to prepare for your interview - and how to focus in on your message when you're collared "out of the blue"
  • Be your own spin doctor - discover the techniques used by the professionals and learn how to apply them to your own media handling
  • Media Training
  • Banish the nerves for good - common-sense strategies for ridding yourself of the needless fears that often accompany an interview. And all without the use of the likes of gimmicky breathing exercises and mumbo-jumbo self-talk
  • You'll master the art of the "sound-bite", enabling you to get your point across succinctly, smoothly and powerfully
  • You'll understand the common tactics employed by interviewers to catch you off guard - and how to spot them and come out on top
  • Stacks of valuable information - from make-up advice to the most flattering way to position yourself on-camera
  • Technical aspects are covered: from floor manager hand signals to the effective use of studio monitors... the dynamics of a telephone interview to working with an earpiece during a "down the line"
  • What to wear - the most effective combinations for on-screen impact
  • There's constant review and playback of recorded interviews, enabling constructive criticism and on-the-spot corrections

Media Reviews

Faking It, Channel 4
"The turning point was coaching from Glenn Kinsey"

"The turning point was coaching from Glenn Kinsey... when up against professional presenters, not one of the TV industry judges spotted that his trainee - a Glasgow newsagent and mother of three - was actually the novice 'faker' with zero experience."

In Brief Magazine
"Extraordinarily concentrated, public speaking at the deep end"

"Glenn Kinsey is the dynamo who expertly drives the day... this is public speaking at the deep end... extraordinarily concentrated... I came away feeling enthused and hyper-confident... if your firm won't send you along (which they should) treat yourself"

Priory Group, Professor Chris Thompson
"Direct, efficient and effective"
"Glenn and his team responded at short notice to provide a morning of media training before a challenging TV interview. The training was direct, efficient and effective and allowed me to be more confident to give responses in my own style without risking being caught out by trick questions. A very challenging but supportive experience."
