Television Presenter Training

Television Presenter Training - Case Studies

You'd be surprised at the variety of work we get involved in! To illustrate this, here's a diverse selection of case studies from our presenter training files:

Hairdresser of the Year

  • Our long relationship with this client goes back to when, as a talented regional salon owner, he wanted to increase his public profile. After intensive and on-going coaching in television techniques and public speaking, he landed regular on-screen appearances on BBC's "Style Challenge" amongst others leading to the ultimate goal of opening his first London salon. We were closely involved with the launch of his product range, drafting his presentations and providing further coaching in their delivery, resulting in orders from retailers all over the world far exceeding expectations. Shortly afterwards, he was crowned British Hairdresser of the Year.

Television Journalist of the Year

  • Our client was an established and skilled television journalist, with plans to make a controversial Channel 4 documentary, slipping undercover into a particularly volatile country. With many sensitive pieces to camera involved, she feared that her familiar TV reporting style lacked the warmth and "viewer connection" needed for such a project. She came to us for help and, after a day's coaching, went on to make her documentary. The film and presenter received much critical acclaim and, due to its subject matter, prompted headlines in all areas of the media and a follow up documentary. Some ten months later at the prestigious Royal Television Society Journalism Awards, she was named Television Journalist of the Year and her documentary, Programme of the Year.

Teleshopping Success

  • Our client, a leading manufacturer and distributor of salon beauty treatments, was already regularly featured on the UK's largest TV shopping channel. Feeling they could do better, but perhaps slightly sceptical of the benefits of training, we were brought in to provide just a couple of hours coaching for their on-screen representative with the hope of increasing sales. The results were phenomenal, with the very next appearance resulting in a near sell-out of their products. With on-going coaching, they launched their products on America’s most popular shopping channel, resulting in similar success and a regular slot. Further down the line, their Managing Director came to us for a series of coaching sessions prior to his appearance on the same shopping channel. Their previous turnover record in this "hour" was £100,000. His debut on-screen appearance resulted in a turnover of over £250,000 - more than two and a half times their previous record.

Athlete to Presenter

  • This household name - and former Olympic finalist and Commonwealth champion - was getting auditions but not getting the job. She came to us for help and we provided a day's one-on-one intensive coaching, whilst simultaneously producing her new showreel. Dramatic improvements were evident during her training and within weeks she'd landed her first on-screen job. Her success continued as one of the prominent faces of a new satellite channel, followed by regular presenting work on terrestrial television.

Big Brother

  • Channel 4's, "Big Brother" was a brand new phenomenon and our client, one of it's most prominent stars. Snapped up by one of the country's top agents, they contacted us in a panic as it became apparent that their client wasn't prepared for the inevitable media and public interest. Our task was threefold - to prepare him for media interviews, build his confidence and public speaking skills for the round of upcoming P.A.'s in clubs around the country and to turn this former IT specialist into a television presenter. We spent several hours with him at the height of Big Brother fever and, whilst preserving his innate humility and charm, helped him build enough confidence to face the media and the public. Shortly afterwards, he became the guest presenter on a leading terrestrial television show. Both our client and his agent were delighted.

Language Is No Barrier!

  • This Arabic television channel was unhappy with the performance of its two main presenters. We accepted the challenge to deliver significant improvement on a "no results, no fee" basis, especially since we would have to work entirely through an interpreter. The focus of our work was on Autocue technique - no mean feat when you consider that the Arabic written word is read from right to left instead of left to right! Despite these obstacles both presenters saw instant and lasting improvement during their half-day's coaching and both channel bosses and talent were delighted with the results. And yes, not only was our fee cheerfully paid, but we provided further training for one of the channel's new presenters sometime later.

The Smell of Success

  • Our French client - a world authority on aromatherapy - was launching her product range through teleshopping channels on several continents. After lacklustre sales, she approached us for guidance. With the help of on-going coaching - both in presentation skills and subtle sales techniques - we were publicly credited with helping her range reach near sell-out proportions on every channel she appeared on. This in turn sparked the interest of one of the UK's top retailers, who, in a £6 million deal, exclusively developed her range and sold it in over 300 stores, resulting in a multitude of further media appearances for our client.
